MOPS San Marcos

Wow! We can’t believe it is November already. Last week, we had our monthly MOPS meeting. We were lucky to hear from Dr. Diane Pape, a senior lecturer in the Texas State University Education Program. She had many heartfelt, encouraging, and practical words of advice for moms of any stage, but particularly to young children. Before the presentation, moms had a chance to submit questions or rather, discussion points. Here are some takeaways from Dr. Pape’s talk: Let kids be kids! The most important thing for them right now is to have rich experiences, conversations, access to books, and socialization. Give your children plenty of sensory play, whether it is with water, mud, sand, playdough, etc. While screen time for young children needs more research, it is not particularly appropriate for children under the age of 2. On Tuesday, August 22, we had a great mixer to kick off our MOPS season. This was a great chance for regular members and new mamas to get together and get to know each other. Our director and co-director shared information on how to join after some yummy food and conversation.  Our first official meeting is on Tuesday, September 5 from 6:15-8:30 at First Baptist Church San Marcos. We hope everyone has had a fun and relaxing summer with your families. The steering committee has been hard at work planning this upcoming MOPS season and it starts this week! How is it March already?!? We enjoyed a DELICIOUS, HOMEMADE meal from Rebekah's group! Pasta, Spaghetti, Italian bread, salad, broccoli, and CHOCOLATE CAKE and yummy desserts! Thanks ladies!!! We were so lucky to first hear from the wonderful, inspiring Celeste and other representatives of "YoungLives" a spinoff from the nationally famous teen outreach program, YoungLife. Happy 2017, everyone!!! MOPS-San Marcos is excited about all the new and exciting things in store this semester. Remember, we are ALWAYS wanting to grow our MOPS family, so if you know of any mommas who would love our group, they are invited to attend year-round!
